Stand Out: The National Queer Comedy Contest!
Presented by Outloud Chicago, Queer Comedy at Zanies has been putting queer comedians in the historic comedy club Zanies for over 2 years. For its third contest, Queer Comedy at Zanies teamed up with Advocate Magazine, Absolut Vodka and Sidetrack Video Bar to make Stand Out: The National Queer Comedy Search. Stand Out recieved videos from over 75 comedians from across the country. 15 were chosen for a voting round on Advocate.com and only 8 advanced to the live competition Zanies Comedy Club 1548 N Wells on Sept. 24 at 8:30 p.m.
Join Dana Goldberg (LA,) Cody Melcher (Chicago,) Jerry Harvey (Chattanooga,) Casey Ley (San Francisco,) Matthew Nouriel (LA,) Maggie Faris (Minneapolis,) Frank Liotti (New York) and Carey Callahan (San Francisco) as they compete for big media features and cash prizes.
Hosted by Queer Comedy at Zanies creator Adam Guerino and judged by Zanies booker Bert Haas, The Advocate comedy editor Jami Smith and host of Vocalo’s The Morning AMp and freelance comedy critic Molly Adams. First place winner will receive $1,200, a headlining spot in Queer Comedy at Zanies season 4, their headshot placed on the wall at Zanies comedy club and will be featured in The Advocate's comedy section — which is, of course, priceless. Second place winner will receive $750 and a feature story in GoPride.com and TheLStop.org. Third place winner will receive $250 and a feature story on InOurWordsblog.com. More prizes to be announced!
