Three of the funniest reigning Queens of Comedy today!
Gay, Straight, Bi or Tri, this show is guaranteed to make you walk away a winner!
POPPY CHAMPLIN
If one were to cross the sweet grooving persona of Ellen Degeneres with Denis Leary’s raunchy sarcasm, the result would be Poppy Champlin. Poppy erupts onto the stage without fanfare, but with enough energy to take down the house in her first minute of comedy. Rapid fire jokes interspersed with comedic songs keep her audiences laughing and coming back.
Her stand-up pedigree is flawless; from VH-1, to A&E, Oprah Winfrey and Joan Rivers to her newest gig on Atlantis cruises she has earned a reputation of being one of the fastest witted female comediennes on either coast.
Graduating from The University of Rhode Island with a BFA in theatre, Poppy set out for Chicago where she attended the famed Second City Comedy Troupe. She refined her chops in Chicago opening for such comics as Ray Ramano, Denis Leary, Bill Maher, Bill Hicks and Rosie O’Donnell.
When Poppy hit tinsel town, she continued to study acting at the Larry Moss studios and has since put up her critically acclaimed One Woman Show, “A Chocolate Sandwich.”
She was a staff writer on FOX’s Show Me The Funny.
Poppy currently can be seen performing her comedy, in the new HBO Documentary “All Aboard Rosie’s Family Vacation” as well as, hosting her own popular comedy show; “Cocktails and Comedy” at the infamous GirlBar in West Hollywood.
Ever increasing her visibility, she is a regular performer in Provincetown, at the Dinah Shore Weekend, and is scheduled to perform in the closing ceremonies of the Gay Games in Chicago, 2006.
Poppy tackles tough subjects with ease. In this comedienne’s hands we can laugh at life’s most formidable perils... and laughter that ravages fear is the best kind of all.
SAPNA KUMAR
Sapna Kumar, 30, has definitely made her mark as a top lesbian comic. Not only was she a Top 20 finalist in Chicago for Oxygen Network’s “Girls Behaving Badly” but she was also called a comic to “keep your eye on” in a June 2004 Curve magazine article on lesbian comediennes. She is currently a featured act with the Cultural Madness Comedy Tour with Mikey O Comedy productions and performs regularly at Joe’s on Weed St. in Chicago. In addition, Sapna was among 10 performers chosen to feature original material in the Chicago Improv Festival in 2004. However, the multitalented honoree is also an actor, having appeared in venues with Awaken Productions at the American Theater Company; Bailiwick Repertory; Arts Lanes at the Ivanhoe Theater; and Pegasus Players.
MICHELE BALAN
Michele Balan is a brash, New York stand-up comedian, and for the past 12 years has been appearing all over the country performing for both Gay and Straight audiences (she is bi-comical!).
Her performances range from the Montreal Just for Laughs Festival to the infamous Friars Club!: From the Dinah Shore Women's Weekend to the Michigan Women's Music Festival; from RSVP cruises to the Aspen Gay Ski week where she headlined with Bruce Vilanch); From the Improv in Los Angeles to Caroline's on Broadway in NYC! She has headlined and hosted many Pride events and Fundraisers.
Michele has shared the stage with Kathy Najimy, Jennifer Holiday, Taylor Dayne, Harvey Fierstein & Nell Carter. Michele has appeared on Comedy Central, USA Network's USA Live and Up All Night, and Lifetime Network.
